4K Portrait Mode

Tamper-proof Kiosk Operation

Secure and focused operation. For use in public areas, the navigation and status bars can be permanently hidden to ensure a pure full-screen mode (Kiosk). Unauthorized access is effectively prevented. Administrators gain full control if needed via the hardware Root Switch.

System Integration

Interactive & Connected

Gigabit LAN and WiFi 6 ensure a stable connection to your CMS – even with large video files. Touchscreens (HID standard), barcode scanners, or mice for interactive terminals can be connected via the USB ports.

Connectivity

Powerful & Efficient

The modern Quad-Core processor (S905X5M) provides enough performance for complex HTML5 animations or 4K videos while remaining extremely power-efficient. This significantly lowers the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in continuous operation compared to PC-based solutions.

Buying Guide (Pre-Sales)

Does the device support touchscreens?
Yes, the DS Player supports the standard HID protocol via USB. Simply connect your touch monitor via USB – in most cases, it is recognized immediately without driver installation (e.g., iiyama, LG, various industrial displays).
Is a "Kiosk Mode" possible?
Yes. You can permanently hide the navigation and status bars in the settings. Combined with an autostart app, you can prevent users from exiting the digital signage application.
Can the navigation and status bars be displayed?
Yes, that is possible. You can permanently show or hide the bottom navigation bar and the top notification bar as desired.
How do I install my own software?
You have full freedom: Install apps directly from the pre-installed Google Play Store or distribute your proprietary software as an .APK file (sideload) via USB stick or download.
Is a Google account strictly necessary?
No. Unlike certified systems (like Google TV), the DS Player can be set up and used entirely without a Google account (e.g., for local media or sideloading). Logging in is only required if you want to download apps directly from the official Google Play Store.
How does the Orbsmart DS Player differ from the Orbsmart S89L?
Technically and in terms of hardware, the S89L and the DS Player are identical. We use the DS Player designation primarily for targeted marketing and bundling within professional digital signage environments.
Can I manage files and videos remotely?
Yes, the DS Player offers very flexible and professional solutions for remote management of files/videos, entirely without physical access to the device:

1. Integrated Local Network (Samba Server): For devices located in the same building or local network, the system features an integrated file server right out of the box. Once activated, the DS Player appears directly as a network drive on your PC. You can easily and wirelessly transfer new files/videos via drag-and-drop to the internal storage or a connected USB stick – securely password-protected if desired.

2. Cloud Synchronization (Cross-location): Popular auto-sync apps (e.g., for Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox) can be installed via the Google Play Store. As soon as you upload new files/videos to your cloud from your workspace, the DS Player automatically downloads them in the background and updates the corresponding local folders on the device. This allows dozens of players worldwide to be centrally managed and supplied with new content.

How does the video auto-play function work?
The DS Player has a built-in function to play videos fully automatically and in a continuous loop after booting.
How to enable Autoplay:
  1. Navigate to Device Preferences Storage Autoplay and turn the function on.
  2. Create a new folder on your USB stick or SD card with the exact name autoplay.
  3. Copy your desired video files into this folder.
Once this function is active, the DS Player regularly checks for folders with this name. It then automatically plays the videos located inside. This also works fully automatically and immediately as soon as a prepared USB stick is plugged in.
Can a specific app start automatically after booting?
Yes, this is easily possible. With the latest firmware update, the S89L features a built-in native auto-start function directly in the system menu.
How it workds:
You can now simply select your desired app in the app settings. The system will then launch this app fully automatically right after booting. The installation of an additional third-party app is no longer necessary!
The DS Player turns on or off by itself. How can I prevent this?
This behavior is caused by "HDMI-CEC" (Consumer Electronics Control). If this function is active, your TV sends a signal to the DS Player to do the same when turning on or off (and vice versa).
The solution:
  1. In the menu, go to Settings Inputs & Devices HDMI CEC.
  2. Disable the options for automatic power on and off (e.g., "Auto power on" / "Auto power off") or turn off the CEC switch completely if you want to control the devices strictly separately.
How do I install and activate another launcher (home screen)?
Since the DS Player uses an open Android 14, you can customize the user interface to your liking.
  1. Download your desired launcher (e.g., Nova Launcher, Wolf Launcher) via the Google Play Store.
  2. Then go to Settings Apps Default apps Home app.
  3. Select your newly installed launcher there. From now on, the device will always start with the new interface.
Does the DS Player support a 4-way split-screen for multitasking?
No, a stable 4-way split-screen is not supported. The Android 14 operating system is natively designed for a classic split-screen for maximum 2 apps (e.g., one app left, one right). Attempting to open 4 apps simultaneously via developer options (freeform mode) leads to severe performance drops and crashes. The processor and RAM are not designed to render 4 active video streams simultaneously on one screen.
