What do I need for setup and operation?

You only need a TV or monitor with a free HDMI port, an internet connection (via WLAN or the integrated LAN port), and a free Google account. An HDMI cable is already included.

Which apps can I use & are there additional costs?

The GX1 provides access to the official Google Play Store with thousands of apps optimized for TV. These include Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, YouTube, Kodi, and many more.

There are no monthly costs for using the box itself. You only pay the subscriptions of the respective streaming providers (e.g., Netflix) if you want to use them.

What is the advantage over a cheap streaming stick?

The GX1 is designed for maximum performance and longevity. Unlike basic sticks, it offers:

More storage: 32GB internal storage (instead of often just 8GB) for dozens of apps without constant warnings.
Ports: An integrated 100 Mbps LAN port for stable 4K streaming, two USB ports for external hard drives, and an optical audio output.

What are the benefits of the AI features (AIPQ & AISR)?

The Realtek chip analyzes the video image in real-time. AIPQ (Artificial Intelligence Picture Quality) dynamically optimizes contrasts and colors to make the picture more vivid. AISR (Super Resolution) intelligently upscales lower-resolution content (e.g., standard HD TV or older series) to 4K, smoothing edges and making the picture significantly sharper.

Does the GX1 support external hard drives?

Yes, you can connect external USB hard drives to play your own media. For very large hard drives (e.g., 4TB or more), however, we recommend using a model with its own power supply to ensure continuously stable operation. Important: If you use hard drives with large movie files formatted in NTFS or exFAT, please read the corresponding note in the "Troubleshooting & Knowledge Base" section below for smooth playback.

Prime Video shows an HDMI connection error

The device is not defective. This error occurs if the digital copy protection (HDCP) between the TV and the GX1 is not negotiated quickly enough. Prime Video is very strict about this.

Original cable: You must use the included HDMI cable (HDCP 2.2 capable).
Handshake reset: Disconnect the TV and GX1 completely from the power supply. Unplug the HDMI cable, plug it back in, and restart.

Tip for LG TVs: Go to the LG settings and temporarily disable HDMI Deep Color (or Ultra HD Deep Colour) for this HDMI input. This usually resolves the conflict.

Picture looks overexposed (bright faces) / pixelated background

This is an incompatibility with the HDR signal or color space. The TV interprets the picture data incorrectly for a moment.

Solution in the GX1 menu:

Go to Settings → Display & Sound → Resolution
Change HDR setting from "Always HDR" to "Adaptive" (or test "SDR").
Change Color Space from "Auto" to "RGB" or "YCbCr 4:2:0".
Restart the device.

Note for premium TVs (e.g., Metz, Sony, LG): Make sure the HDMI port in the TV menu is set to "Enhanced Format" or "UHD Color".

Picture freezes on Live TV apps, audio continues

This often occurs with European IPTV apps (Cosmote, Eon TV). They send a fixed 50Hz signal. If the GX1 is set to 60Hz, the decoder goes out of sync.

Force the system to 50Hz:

Go to Settings → Display & Sound → Resolution
Disable auto-switch.
Manually select 4K 50Hz (or 1080p 50Hz) and restart.

Picture stutters during movies (Judder / double contours)

Movies usually run at 24p (frames per second). If the GX1 is set to 60Hz, the TV has to display frames twice, which leads to "skipping" during camera pans.

Enable automatic matching:

Go to Settings → Display & Sound → Resolution
Enable Match Content Frame Rate.
Set the value to Always.

Kodi / Plex: Do I have to change the frame rate manually?

No. Modern media players have their own automatic matching integrated.

Setting in Kodi:
Go to Settings → Player → Videos and set "Adjust display refresh rate" to On start / stop. Kodi will then automatically force the TV into the judder-free 24p mode.

The GX1 turns on by itself

This is mostly caused by the "HDMI-CEC" control. Your TV or receiver accidentally sends a wake-up signal to the box.

How to disable this:

Go to Settings → Display & Sound → HDMI-CEC
Turn off the CEC Switch or Auto Wake options.

Remote constantly reports new updates on the TV

These are not real software updates. It is a typical sign of slight voltage fluctuations in the batteries (connection drop and re-pairing).

Solution: Replace the batteries with new, branded batteries. The message will then disappear immediately.

The front LED is too bright. Can it be turned off?

Yes, this is easily possible. Just use the pre-installed "LedControl" app, which you can find in the app menu. There you can completely disable the status LED of the box.

Why are apps like NordVPN pre-installed on my new device?

You don't need to worry: You are guaranteed to receive brand new and original sealed goods. The fact that certain apps like NordVPN, YouTube, or Netflix are already on the system is technically completely normal and not a sign of a returned item.

These are official partner apps that were permanently integrated into the firmware by the manufacturer of the operating system (Google TV) at the factory. The device is in its absolute original condition.

USB hard drive is not recognized or the system prompts for formatting

By default, the Google TV operating system only recognizes storage devices in the FAT32 format. If you have large movies on a hard drive formatted in NTFS or exFAT, the system will incorrectly prompt you to format it when plugged in. Please do not format the hard drive, otherwise your data will be lost!

The simple solution for playback:
Powerful media player apps like VLC for Android or Kodi come with their own drive drivers. If you download these apps for free from the Play Store and open them, they can directly read your NTFS or exFAT hard drive. You can easily play your videos without the main Google system needing to mount the stick or hard drive natively.
